Andriani Vladimirou, Lady Amarena 2018
Rimini, October 2018 – Andriani Vladimirou, 26, triumphed on September 25th at the fourth edition of the international competition dedicated to mixology's "pink quotas": the Cypriot barlady beat 18 other finalists from all over the world to win the Lady Amarena category at the finals of the competition at the Palacongressi in Rimini.
Andriani won the jury over with her Rumarena cocktail, designed to pay homage to Italian culture and history. “A sense of tradition and respect for your roots are very strong values in Italy", commented the barlady, "and my cocktail represents this". Rumarena is a long drink that reinterprets the Negroni with Marendry, the bitter with Amarena Fabbri, Barolo Chinato and Plantation Pineapple.
Fresh from victory, Andriani told us how she ended up behind a bar. “I started working as barlady six years ago to pay for my university course", she revealed. ”I hope this victory will allow me to find more ways to express myself: when I work, I show my creative side and myself. This is a message I'd like to send out to all women, and men, working in this sector: don't be afraid of being yourself. Each of us has something unique".
Lady Amarena was created in 2015 to celebrate the first centenary of the iconic Amarena Fabbri, a favourite cocktail ingredient. Andriani Vladimirou is the fourth barlady to win the title. Before her, winners included Italian Cinzia Ferro (2015), Hungarian Anett Malomhegyi (2016) and Greek Fenia Athanasiadi (2017).
Chinese Shi Qian came second with her Paradiso cocktail, which pays homage to the film by Giuseppe Tornatore, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso. Third place, on the other hand, was taken by Italian Francesca Lolli, a barlady from Fourghetti in Bologna, who had won the Italian final on September 24th with her La Merenda, a long drink inspired by memories of childhood snacks at her grandmother's house.
