Thursday evening, the first encounter with Fabbri’s new bitter, heading out from Bologna to conquer the world. Traveling from cocktail bar to cocktail bar will be Nicola Fabbri himself.
Bologna, April 2017 – Beginning Thursday, 13 April, in Bologna, the hometown of Fabbri 1905, MARENDRY, one of Fabbri 1905’s last new liqueurs produced up until the 1970s, will begin its comeback tour to show off this authentically Italian, endlessly pleasing bitter to some of the world’s best bartenders.
It may not be common knowledge that Fabbri, the makers of Amarena Fabbri, started out in 1905 as “Premiata Distilleria Liquori G. Fabbri” when Gennaro Fabbri acquired an old grocery store with wine cellar in Portomaggiore, in the province of Ferrara. The name remains to this day emblazoned on the company’s current headquarters in Bologna, where the former grocer’s moved in 1914.
An event Thursday evening at Il Rialto (Via Rialto 23, Bologna), beginning at 19:00, will mark the start of this international tour taking MARENDRY from Bologna out to cocktail bars worldwide, introducing the world to this bitter’s intriguing mix of Amarena cherry and liqueur, but with a fresh, modern flavour given by the delicate aroma of Mediterranean citrus and traditional Ligurian chinotto and moderate alcohol content (at 21% ABV).
“We’ve answered a natural question that was being asked by many of our bartender friends around the world, who already love our Amarena and our syrups and other fruit products for cocktails,” said Nicola Fabbri. “Now, we’ll be taking MARENDRY to them to tell them a bit about it and about the history of our family and of our nation.” The storyteller will be Nicola Fabbri himself, great-grandson of Gennaro Fabbri, traveling from place to place on an unconventional sort of family tour, evoking at once both a vintage and a contemporary feel, as this leading figure from Italian business pays homage to the brightest stars of mixology and to their most loyal fans.
The tour will include stops in Bari, Rome, Rimini and Naples within Italy as well as in Hungary, Greece, Great Britain, Denmark, Cyprus, Germany and Singapore. At the various venues throughout the tour, Nicola Fabbri will be the feature of a series of Family Meetings: “Conversing over an Aperitif. Guest star: MARENDRY, the vintage bitter”.
Accompanying Nicola Fabbri will be Alessandro Cattani, a Fabbri 1905 bartender who, together with the local resident bartender, will strive to amaze the cocktail enthusiasts on hand. For the kick-off event at Il Rialto, Fabbri will also offering up great legends of Bologna mixology: the Due Torri, the Americano Bologna, and the Nettuno.
